Oh, hey.
Right, so starting a blog is always awkward.
This blog has a stringent focus, though.
Why tiny things? Well, I enjoy them. I also wanted to start a blog about something other than my life (there are enough of those...not about my life in particular, but in general, diary-type blogs are just sort of meh), and at first I was joking with a friend about starting a blog with this focus, but then last night I was watching The Amazing Race, and while they were in Shanghai, they ran into this guy:
Introducing He Ping Ping, the world's smallest man.
In the episode, he was dressed like a chef. It reminded me that I once owned a tiny chef's outfit with Kermit the Frog printed on the hat and the apron. This made me happy. He was also smoking a cigarette - I had never seen anybody make cigarette smoking look adorable before. I would buy a cigarette from this man. I would ask him for a light so I could lean over and accept the light offered from his wee hand...and then, with stealth, kiss him on top of his peanut head.
What I'm trying to say is, the man had charisma.
Minutes later, while I was trying to figure out how I could get this dude to do a personal appearance at my next major event, there was a quick flash at the end of the episode with a picture of Ping Ping, with the caption 'In Memory Of'.
NO. No. Please...this cannot be. Ping Ping is dead. Dead of heart complications due to his, you know, disease that made him so frickin' small.
Devastation.
What to do to cope with the pain? Look him up on YouTube, of course. I certainly do hope that's what people do when I die.
Go to 0:43. He talks. And he sounds like a baby duck. I almost cried.
Ok, right, maybe this is insulting? Like, if Ping Ping was a tiny animal or inanimate thing, my gushing and mourning over the tiny duck sounding bald man (who was 21 when he passed last month) would not be so...inappropriate? This man is not a pony to tie up with ribbons and trot down the street while shoving sugar cubes in his mouth...I think?
But this is the first post, so I have to go big (so to speak...gah, I can see how the whole usage of 'big', 'small' and their similes is going to get terribly tiresome) or go home. I promise there will rarely be human-related postings, anyways, cuz I don't dig on kids so much, and generally 'Little People' just don't turn my crank (like those Learning Channel shows like the one with the little parents, but the big kids? Or apparently there's one about little people who run a chocolate shop? And do you know how hard I am trying not to use the 'M' word right now? Um, yeah, anyways...those shows just make me feel uncomfortable and bored). But Ping Ping had to be the first, cuz he inspired me to start this. We'll see how long I can actually keep this up. Every day will be a new discovery.
R.I.P. Ping Ping.
